I understand that it's difficult for the layman, but it's not impossible, and actually yields a better multiplayer experience than trying to tunnel through several layers of networking ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to find a connection. Just use Evolve over Hamachi, requiring you to make an account for Evolve, which applies to any of your friends that want to play Risk of Rain with you on multiplayer, but the. Any online multiplayer at all is impressive, given that it is not supported out of the box at all, and designing netcode is difficult for a team of three dudes. I see the occasional post and/or complaint about multiplayer being difficult to set up, assuming you don't want to/can not port forward (or refuse to know how to do it). I mean Chucklefish most likely has the ability to make the online like any other online game, why make it difficult? Not saying everything should super easy, but it should be easy enough for the majority of people to be able to figure out without to much trouble. It's extremely difficult for those who don't have hours and hours to figure this ♥♥♥♥ out, and personally (I hope I am speaking for most people here) I think they should just stop with all this port forwarding stuff, and just make it easy and simple like most games. Originally posted by BitRogue:-.- not everyone is familiar with their networking hardware. It's a valuable thing to understand, as a lot of older games and LAN games use this method of connection. Go to start, type in Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, open the program, click on Inbound Rules on the left side, find Risk of Rain from the list, double click either of the two default rules that appear, click on Ports and Protocols, and enter the port you wish to use (I leave the protocol defaulted to "All protocols.") IF the port still registers as closed after this step, the port forward is not usually the problem! The problem is then in your firewall. This is also easy to find if you go to Network and Sharing (in Windows 7 and above) then click on Network Map, and click on your router to visit the device's page.įrom there, configuring your port forward is as easy as finding your local IP address (usually found under a management or Local Network status page) and entering that IP address on the port forward page, along with the port and protocol that you wish to use to play. Usually, you would identify the brand and model of your router (For example, a Cisco E3000) and find the default IP address for that model - (For example, Cisco/Linksys models always default to 192.168.1.1). If you already know the IP, port, and password of a server, you can connect to it via the Risk of Rain 2 in-game developer console. Port-forwarding is only difficult if you're not familiar with your networking hardware. I'm not sure that Steamworks (which is what you're asking for) is even possible with Gamemaker. Honestly, given the engine used to make the game, this might be the best possible scenario for online play. I am sure they will fix it as soon as they can.As far as we're aware, no announcement has been made regarding the online play. There is deffantly something wrong with the game. As I stated above we tried just about everything but actual local connect but VPN masks that anyway. Port forwarding is silly enough, I don't want to tear my hair out over the game not recognizing open ports.Įven downloading Hamachi won't fix the issue. I wanna know what changed that the game can't read open ports anymore, considering my ports ARE open. I don't want to download Hamachi again for this nonsense, not for one game that uses it. We've done the port forwarding, all the crap that comes with it, and the game still won't work. Now that the patch hit, I can't connect to anyone and no one can connect to each other. We did all the port forwarding garbage and got to play. The game worked fine for me and my friends before the patch. If that is still to hard then go play something else >.> The game is great and if any of those are to much work your loss.
